About $600 - $700 plus I think you need an external infra-red for $150 but still good price for a digital. I think the thermal imaging is about $2,000 but for those who can afford it that's about as cheap as thermal gets, at least that I know of. I would definitely want to see how others rated them though before I invested.

I shoot an ATN, X Sight-II on a 300 BO.

It has some limitations, but a good optic once you learn how to wring it out.

They have a new series coming out. Looks more like a conventional scope than having the Space Shuttle mounted on your gun.

This chassis supports day/night and thermal.

I'm not in their camp by any means, but am happy with their product...so far.

Yeah, I have one of the ATN night scopes, weighs 3 pounds lol. Have you tried these lights that Kevin sells? I hunt in the woods, close range, and use the Pro Hunter - I killed a hog the second time I used mine - Kevin says that hogs can't see red lights. Most people shoot much greater distances than what I do, and he has several lights that will reach waaay out there - check them out on his home page - you just may find them to your liking - I sure like mine!

I've kinda poked around on the site and didn't see any gun mounted lights.

I don't pig hunt from a stand anymore, from what i see, one of his big lights wouldn't help.

The Cyclops gun mounted green light is OK with conventional glass, to 100-150yds. I bought an IR module for it, but it was too bright...or more accurately, the beam didn't focus tight enough. All the splash just washed out my ATN unit.

They have an upgraded IR illuminator that I haven't tried. For $150 bucks, I may not.

That is the biggest issue I have with that optic, high grass or thick scrub causes too much light splash.

I do have a cheep IR laser (lasermax) on it for close, snap shots. It's not uncommon for me to wade into cows & pigs and get close. Too close sometimes. Under NV, a laser is the best way to deal with shots under 30yds.

Several occasions have put me within 5-10yds. This is a cellphone picture, not a game cam.

This is about 70yds with the Cyclops/IR module.

The same shot with the ATN illuminator.

Keep in mind, this is with good conditions. No high grass, no overhanging limbs, no fog, etc.

It was when I first got that sight too, I can drive it a lot better now.

There is a learning curve.

Yeah, that's the problem that I have with my ATN night vision scope - in the woods, any brush, limbs, leaves, ec. blacks out everything - can't see thru it like you can with a day scope. I guess every hunters situation is different. By nature, I'm a stalker, but getting too old to do a lot of that anymore, lol. Now mostly stand hunt.

They have a new chassis coming out for thermal and NV, looks more like a scope.

Interesting. From an 'old guy's' point of view, (with only 40 yrs in electronics,) we're still in the early stages of night vision. With IR, we have issues with enough IR light (milliwatts/ radian,) AGC (or auto iris) for limiting maximum brightness, a low 'noise level' in detectors (sets low level in detection,) display resolution and power requirements. I suspect developmental improvement will continue as the various components continue to improve. I'm just sort of bummed out that it takes so long and I'm not rich enough to try out the 'bleeding edge' devices. :)

ATN has a new Thermal out.

The stripped a lot of the tech functions (Video, wi-fi, ballistic calculator, etc.) out and made it simple to use.

With a $1200 MSRP, it will change the market.

I've been trying to save my lunch money for thermal, but this will put it in range.

The only concern is, will it be better/cheaper next year.

That ATN is a one nice scope, maybe in my price range next year! Thank you for letting us know! If anyone gets this one, I'd like to know if it holds zero and if it can zoom in at 200-300yds.

Ronnie,I've been using the X-Sight II for several years now.

It has it's limitations, but does what it does fairly well. Killed a bunch of pigs with it on a 300BO.

It has held zero well, my only complaint is battery consumption. It has given me confidence in ATN gear.

Once I put a thermal on an AR-10, the BO wil go to back-up status.

Something for guests to use, as most don't have any night gear.

I have an old ATN Aries Gen 1 that I have killed lots of hogs with close range - it’s infrared. My problem with night vision at least this scope is you can’t see thru the brush it blacks out everything. Is thermal different in this regard, or made for use in more open areas?

I think it will be much better.

Washout is an issue with my X-Sight, too.

WIll probably get one of these thermals. It will go on a AR-10, so a little bit more lunch money and I'll get the 4-8 instead of the 3-6.

There is a comparison chart on the two here...
https://www.atncorp.com/thermal-scope-thor-lt-4-8x

It gives the company distance numbers for detection/recognition/identification.

Poke around on youtube, there are many videos of thermal in use.

Soon as i can get one and run it a bit, I'll report back.

Thanks for the info - until now thermal scopes have been out of my price range - I hope they continue to improve both in quality and affordability

I spoke with a rep.

He kinda hinted around that I wouldn't be happy with that optic for pig hunting at 100yd+ ranges.

Will do more research.

Ended up getting the Thor 4, 2-8X.

Have run it a few times now, starting to make friends with it.

Pigs seem to be pretty scarce for the last few weeks. Will post pics when I have soething other than cows.
