This is how I got started (on a budget), how I do it, and what I do it with.

Here's what you can do;

------------------------------------------------------------------------

This would be "Simple Lightweight Set Up"
Equipment:
:arrow: TEXASBOARS FEEDERLIGHT
:arrow: SONY DCR SR82 (this series has exceptional "Super NighShot" capability).
**You'll need at a minimum a high capacity battery for the camera.
:arrow: Tripod or other device to hold the camera on permanent hard shot (not moving).

INSTRUCTIONS:
-> Turn "ON" TEXASBOARS LIGHTS - aim them properly - leave them on.
-> Turned the camera "ON" (auto shut off is disabled) (remains "ON").
-> Turn ON NightSHot
-GO INTO SETTINGS
-> TURN OFF THE DINGING NOISES!
-> Turn "ON" Super NightShot
-> Turn "OFF" the cameras "IR Illumination", use the TEXASBOARS LIGHTS and save the camera battery.
-> Turn "OFF" automated shutdown! YOU MUST TURN THIS OFF!
*if the camera shuts down you'll have to go in and do all this over again.
-> Turn "ON" "manual focus"

You're ready:
--> Aim and manually focus the Sony. Turn "ON" RECORD, and hunt. You don't "need" to mess with the camera from this point forward. It is aimed and recording. It will continue to record (even on the Hi Def) for 30 hours! (the camera can be 50 yards away from you)

TECHNICALLY, if you mount the camera easy to reach you can pan (slowly) zoom in and out.

HEAVY DUTY SET UP (ACCESORIZED) notes and tips.

ACCESORIES:
-> Deep Cycle Battery
-> Power Inverter
* (to replace the camera battery) use this set up to power the camera with your charger. One inverter cost less than a Sony battery.

* Multiple cameras can make for multiple shots and angles.*
Using the same methods as above you can set up multiple cameras turn them on record and let'em run.
Some simple editing can bring forh some pretty good videos (for night time).

You can check out videos from 8+ years using this method.
