I couple years ago, my father and I went bear hunting and were successful! I posted that storie a couple days ago. well I intended on using a bit of the extra tanned hide to make my father a new knife sheath, however, now that I look at it, the hid is very thin, and I don't think would make a good sheath. So i'm looking for other ideas of something I could make, or have made that would be a good way to thank him for such an amazing trip.

any ideas or suggestions? or any way to continue with the sheath but not be light and flimsy?

Use heavy grade leather for the inside of the sheath, and use the bear hide as the outside cover. You know, as a decorative addition to the outside. You could also use a long strip of bear hide as a decoration on a rifle sling. Use heavy leather for the sling. Use the strip of bear hide on one side, and sew a border of heavy leather around the bear hide. I can picture both items in my head, but it's hard to describe.

He already has a leather knife sheath, maybe I'll look into covering over it.

I love the idea of a rifle sling, but I don't think I have enough...

This was my first idea, but the hide is thin so I'd have to build it with heavily hide then coer over it with the bear. I think I'm gonna customize a gun sling. I'll post up some pics of the final product when I get there

Thank you all!!!!
