Most likely a most unusual post - everyone, everywhere else, is overrun with hogs. I've hunted them a few years now, and never seen anything like this year - I am having to look for hog sign! Our lease is over 2K acres, but I only hunt a third of it or so - the place where I killed the most, and biggest, hogs in the past, I have killed ONE in 2 years! My 2nd best place, have only seen one track in 2-3 months - other places I'm having to look for them - a track here, one there, is all. My guess is they have been poisioned - hogs multiply like crazy, and they move around - shoot some at one location, and they leave "temporarily", of course, but 2-3 weeks & others move in, on and one it goes - usually - but not this year. People 2 miles either side of me are complaining of hogs - yet I have no answer as to why they aren't where I hunt anymore. I've moved around the swamp, cutovers - what y'all think? I/ve hunted a LOT this year, and sad to say, killed 6 hogs - boars, all. Something is going on, for sure.

I'm not sure where your lease is. I've seen similar results when dog hunters came in and hunted the place at night. The hogs go where they're not bothered by the dogs, at least for a while. Feed them, and they will normally come back. At least until they're run off by dogs again.

Like you mentioned, perhaps the landowner or someone else has started poisoning them. I doubt that, but it's possible. The other option is trapping. I've never seen trapping able to run all the hogs off, or able to catch all the hogs.

Let us know if you discover anything.

I haven't heard dogs at night, but then again, I'm practically deaf. It's possible that dogs are being used but I never see anyone when I'm out at night. Very strange, only killed 8 this year & 2 within the last 2 weeks on my own property.

The other problem this time of year is the acorns a pecans start falling. The hogs will bypass feeders to get to acorns and pecans.

Yep, just this week I noticed that the pin oak acorns are beginning to fall - gonna get em good & fat, lol. On another subject, would you by chance know where I can buy some 35 Whelen shells? NONE to be found anywhere I look, in stores or online!

I found two boxes in stock, but they're not cheap.

Thanks, I really appreciate it - Remington seems to have really "upped" their prices - my son has a reloader but we can't find a 35 whelen resizer (can resize 30-06 to 35 whelen) nor can we find a 35 whelen brass die - i have brass, he has primers & power, & bullets are available but without the dies it's all for naught. Oh well, as this world continues down its "progressive" road! Maranatha

I found one at Brownell's. May take a few weeks to get it, as it is special order. However, they do have it available.

You're very welcome. I use Duck Duck Go for my search engine. It's tons better than google or any other search engine I've found. You can also use Ammoseek for reloading components and equipment.

Found a set of dies at Titan reloading & ordered them - found .358 hornady interlock 200 grain spire point bullets at Midway & ordered them - hopefully set to go once they come in. I don't have a neck resizing die for 30-06 cases to expand to .358 but some guys say not necessary, just lube well inside neck of 06 case & lightly outside & run thru 35 whelen die - may try that - thanks again so much!
