I used to live in Milam county and owned a place behind the KC hall. Out there there was a small black mosquito that hurt like rip.Never saw it any where else in Milam county.Lived in
Rockdale over 28 years and never saw one any place else. _________________ Chuck Davis |

I bet these are the mosquitoes that you encountered. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aedes_albopictus They are called the tiger mosquito. Most mosquitoes attack in the evening or morning. These little buggers will come at you in broad daylight on a hot summer day. They don't give up easy but the ThermoCell seems to keep them at bay. I haven't had the gnat problem yet. I did have to put down some diatomaceous earth powder to keep the fire ants at bay. It seemed to work very good and I like that it doesn't have any odor whatsoever. |

| when we are fishing on the marsh bay, we rub a dryer sheet on arms, legs, face and neck and then stick the sheet in a top pocket. not much of a cover scent for hunting. |

One of the farmers up in Nebraska put a little Absorbine Jr. on his hat brim to keep the biting gnats away. He swore by it. Stinks to high heaven though, better stay downwind of the piggies.

last year I used full bug netting hat to protect my eyes, ears nose, but they are so small and so many this year that its not working. I have been doing this for nearly 30 years and I dont think I have ever seen it this bad.
I sit to close to my hogs to use anything with a smell, unless it smelled like corn. |

Yep,
couple names for them;
NO SEE UMS
BUFFALO KNATS
They will bite the daylights out of you -- fly in your eyes, up your nose, and in your ears!

I've had good luck with vanilla extract repelling gnats.
Even the cheap imitation vanilla works.
I put it in a spray bottle to apply to hat and head. It has to be reapplied every 20 mins or so to be effective. |

couple years ago we bought some garlic liquid to spray on yard for mosquitos. worked good. non-toxic for chickens with rain runoff. wonder if it would work since it is natural. maybe put some out to get them used to it and see what they do. maybe mix it with some corn for the trial. try it at home to see if gnats stay away first. _________________ Rich |

VANILLA!
GARLIC!
if it will work it would be great! Because DEET will eat the finish off your gun and even eat your steering wheel on your vehicle. Well, if you use it as often as I used it, which was about every night. I hate deet! at the same time, I was thankful I had it when I needed it. _________________ KEVIN RYER

| Cutters Advanced Sport with Picaridin repels as good as Deet, and will not damage plastics and gun finishes. |
